New York nightclub pianist Al Roberts decides to hitchhike to Hollywood to see his girl, Sue. When the sleazy gambler he’s riding with dies en route, he impulsively takes the man’s identity to hide from the police. A mysterious woman blackmails him and we watch his accidental descent into a life of crime. Despite a miniscule budget, this powerful and seedy drama was one of the most profitable films ever made.
It takes 1 hour and 7mins o.o
If only Hollywood could make movies like this again. I’d take one of these over 1000 Avatars.
great film noir’
when was the last time you ever said “give me change for a ‘dime’ ” yeah a dime is worth squat 75 years later…

Thanks for the upload, long time no see
A-MA-ZING PICTURE QUALITY !!!!! THANKS !
¡Los caminos del Señor son inescrutables!
A ver, me he perdido.
I saw this classic movie as a boy on the Late, Late show and loved it. It still haunts me in my mind of its simplicity and how easy it could be to find ones self in a simular situation. I hitch-hiked all over the south as a young man with this movie ringing in my ears, wondering if it could ever happen to me.The moral: 1st: never hitch-hike 2nd: Never ride with a guy who has straches on his forearm 3rd: Never ride with a guy who takes pills and U don’t know what they R for. D.O.A. or worse!Boo!
Thank you very much for a lucky opportunity to see this great movie.
note during hitch hike seen the drivers are on wrong side of driver seat. Ann Savage face is so scary in the car seen.
BRILLIANT ,,THANX 4 POSTIN ,,,
Ann Savage rules!
just curious, why are all the cars and trucks left hand drive ???
A rare gem, thanks for the upload. May I quote from Roger Ebert’s review of this film:
“Do these limitations and stylistic transgressions hurt the film? No. They are the film. “Detour” is an example of material finding the appropriate form. Two bottom-feeders from the swamps of pulp swim through the murk of low-budget noir and are caught gasping in Ulmer’s (the director’s) net. They deserve one another.”
