Detective Sargent Ted Spencer is on the trail of Verloc, part of a gang of foreign London saboteurs. As a cover, Verloc manages a cinema with his wife and her brother, who don’t know his secret. Spencer takes a job at the shop next door to observe the family.
Great film! All ends make it a classic!
The book this was based on, by Joseph Conrad, was even more wonderful than the film! The brother in the book was older (around 20) and mentally retarded. I think Hitchcock wanted to make the saboteur even more villainous by making his victim a young boy! You really should read the book if you haven’t already!
Great film!
Thumbs up. Thank you for the entertaining movie.
aw
This is a must see film if there ever was one. Alfred mentioned that it was this film’s tangled turn of events that enlightened him to the need to let his viewers leave the cinema felling victorious as opposed to defeated.
