In 1948, the Soviet Union blockades the Allied sectors of Berlin to bring the entire city under their control. A semi-documentary about the resulting Berlin Airlift gives way to stories of two fictitious US Air Force participants: Sgt. Hank Kowalski, whose hatred of Germans proves resistant to change, and Sgt. Danny McCullough, whose pursuit of an attractive German war widow gives him a crash course in the seamy side of occupied Berlin.

Thank you so much, for posting I have been looking every where for this movie, and i could not find it any where. Thanks to you i have now watched all Monty Clift’s movies. Thanks so much.
In the scene of the border dispute, one of the american officers who comes to check it out is my Grandfather, Ramond Tyler. When they are looking to see where the line should be he is the one standing behind the people that is closest to the camera and you can see his profile and then they change the angle and you can see him straight on where he is the american officer on the right standing behind them all.
Not a great film. I like Clift and Douglas very much, but they are a mismatch.
Interesting to see the ruins of Berlin close up.
The man who is the pilot of the plane Montgomery Clift is aborad is my friend Lt ALfred Frieburger. He had flown ~64 missions during WW 2 in a B-26 (D-DAY), later worked for 20+ yrs as a test pilot for Douglas of the DC-9 and DC-10. Later, was a Reserve Dep Aero Unit of the Orange County Sheriff’s Dept-CA. He passed away in 2004.
I can’t believe it is as long as it is, actually.
This seems like the type of movie that Quentin Tarantino would like or copy, especially the “English language” scene.
This is missing a chunk in the middle…
